Hendrik “Hennie” van Niekerk began his career in construction as a finish carpenter and has since grown into a preconstruction leader overseeing some of the most complex and exciting commercial and industrial projects in the United States. Over 19 years, he has delivered more than 266 projects, totaling over 24 million square feet across 14 states. His industrial portfolio includes a five story, 3.8 million square foot distribution center and programs exceeding 240 million dollars in value.

Hennie currently leads all preconstruction and estimating efforts for Alston Construction’s Arizona office. He combines business development, commercial real estate insight, and contracting expertise with an entrepreneurial mindset. Working closely with architects, engineers, and trade partners, he focuses on design build delivery that aligns with client vision, performance requirements, and financial goals.

With experience spanning residential, multifamily, mixed use, retail, and industrial development, Hennie is fluent in multiple estimating and project platforms, including Cost OS, Destini, WinEst, ProEst, Procore, OST, BlueBeam, SketchUp, Excel, and Office 365.

Known for leading from the front, he is committed to empowering his teams, supporting trade partners, and staying in the trenches throughout the preconstruction lifecycle. His passion is building strategies, relationships, and projects that create long term value for clients and communities.
